Immersive Visitor Centre
Bundaberg Rum is a beloved Australian icon.
It was a privilege to work closely with the brand team and interior designer to design a Visitor Centre that is authentic, engaging and memorable – the kind of place people tell their loved ones about.
Housed within two original bond stores (historic warehouses where rum was legally stored and aged under government supervision), the centre sits at the heart of the working distillery.
The first bond store became a flowing museum experience, guiding visitors through pods crafted from old rum vats. Each pod reveals a different part of the brand’s history and distilling process, with ramps and wide walkways ensuring accessibility for all. The second bond store was transformed into a retail space, offering a natural transition from storytelling to product in a setting that retains the site’s industrial charm.
Immersive design
The design preserves the raw industrial character of the buildings, with historic paraphernalia and rich wood elements incorporated throughout.
Warm lighting was installed to highlight textures and create a welcoming and tactile environment that connects visitors with the Bundaberg Rum story.
Designing the Visitor Centre within a live distillery posed unique challenges, including strict safety protocols not often encountered on other projects. We worked with the team to ensure all protocols were followed and successfully created a space that is modern and practical, while remaining respectful and deeply connected to the site’s rich history.
Today, the visitor centre is a much-loved destination for locals and visitors alike.
